During our "Self Arrest" training session on Saturday, April 13, 2013, above the Mazamas Lodge on Mt. Hood, we didn't have a slope steep enough for students to gain enough speed on a downhill slide in order to learn the proper techniques needed to "stop safely in a stable and secure position." So, we improvised and, using the skill and strength of the assistant leaders, tossed them down the slope. It worked . . . and a new, exciting sport was born!
